We need bed pushers!

The route will be split up into smaller manageable legs with different teams volunteering to push for a section. Get in touch with Emily to register as an official Bed Push Volunteer.

You can also get involved by pledging your support, becoming a sponsor or offering to donate food to us along the route.

We will be passing through several towns and villages along the route so we also need supporters to cheer us on as we pass through.

No matter what your availability, we would love for you to get involved!

About

Between Friday 29th November and Sunday 1st December 2019 the Harbour Housing team made up of staff and residents, along with volunteers from the community and local businesses, will undertake a mammoth challenge – pushing a bed on wheels from the Tamar to Land’s End!
This is in aid of a cause which is close to our hearts: the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG). The 2 year old grandson of a member of staff is currently going through some very serious treatment, and so all funds raised from this effort will go towards this brilliant charity as well as the family of Chester.

Please support us any way you can! We’d love to bring together communities from across Cornwall to raise awareness and funds for this deserving cause.

Watch this page for updates and more info on how to get involved.

Chester's Story

“Chester has been diagnosed with spinal astrocytoma and has lesions on his brain. This is a very rare form of brain and spine cancer of which little is known when it comes to treatment of one so young. To give him the best possible chance he is undergoing 18 months of chemotherapy.

“When Chester’s diagnosis was received our world was knocked sideways but he is the bravest, cheekiest little trooper who keeps us all on our toes. His Mum and Dad, Verity and Dave, and his little brother Coby make us so proud with the way that they are coping every day, and their house is one of the most positive, happy houses to be in.
“On the darker days when Chester is feeling particularly unwell the feeling of being powerless can be overwhelming for us grandparents, but that little family battles on through every day to try and make life as normal as possible for their two boys.”
Claire Tregunna, Tenancy Sustainment Officer at Harbour and Chester’s Nonna

The Bed Push

“I am humbled by the generosity of Harbour Housing to make Chester their chosen charity for this year and am determined to make this event one to remember and raise as much as possible to help our little family and other families going through similar times.
“Many residents have already come to me with their own ideas for raising money for Chester’s Challenge. This has, on occasion, brought me to tears that those with so little want to do so much to help our little trooper, Chester.
“Verity and Dave have said that they would like to share the money with CCLG so other families dealing with a similar situation can benefit from our efforts as well.”
Claire Tregunna, Tenancy Sustainment Officer at Harbour and Chester’s Nonna

How to Get Involved

There are so many ways for you to support us:

  • Volunteer to be one of the teams pushing the bed
  • Come and cheer us on along the route
  • Donate food and drink to our bed-pushers
  • Donate money to our fundraising page
  • Sponsor the event
  • Advertise and share with friends

We are looking for community groups, clubs, businesses and individuals to volunteer to push the bed for one of the legs of our journey.

The journey will be split into manageable legs of about 5 miles, and the team on call for each leg will be split between pushing and resting in our support vehicle.

We will provide volunteers with high visibility clothing to wear as well as water along the journey.

The safety of all involved is our highest priority, and we ask that all those volunteering comply with safety instructions and fill out the health assessment of our volunteer pack.

Contact Emily on emily.h@harbourhousing.com to express your interest and find out more.

To cover our costs we are looking for sponsors for our event.

Bespoke sponsorship packages can be designed for interested parties, with lots of great opportunities for coverage and promotion of your organisation.

All sponsors will be credited on our website and Facebook page, and we are offering the chance for branding to be attached to the bed itself.
